Hair tourniquets explained

Does anyone recognise this?

We call them hair tourniquets and it’s when a very fine piece of hair or thread gets caught around a babies toe, finger or sometimes even penis.
They are usually more prevalent during the postpartum hair loss phase (we love this bit don’t we ladies!)
You may notice swelling, redness to an area and your baby maybe more unsettled and upset. On closer inspection you may see something wrapped around.
To remove it a health professional may use hair removal cream, scissors or a small blade. Occasionally in the most severe cases they may need surgery as it may be so tightly wrapped around.
Obviously having anything wrapped around a body part can cause concern to the blood flow and can restrict it so it’s always best to get it checked, even if you’ve removed the hair or thread.
